What's new
Several new papers that have been published or presented over the last
few months are of particular interest to TEG® analyzer users:
- "TEG[®] Could Replace Platelet Count Cutoff as Epidural
Criterion" was published in the August 1999 issue of Anesthesiology
News and is based on a presentation (Abstract A12) at the 1999
annual meeting of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and
Perinatology. It states that "...TEG[®] may offer a better measure
of coagulation status by which to determine which patients are at
risk of epidural hematoma."
- "Role of Thromboelastograph® in Open Heart Surgery" was
presented by Dr. Kaushal Pandey et al of the PD Hinduja National
Hospital and MRC at the All India Conference of Cardiothoracic
Surgeons March 5-8, 2000 in Mumbai, India .
- "Thromboelastography: A Simple Screen for Hypercoagulable
States, Hyperhomocysteinaemia and a Predictor of Failure Following
Peripheral Arterial Intervention" was presented by S. Vig et al
of the Depts. of Vascular Surgery, Haematology and Biochemistry St.
George's Hospital, London, at the Surgical Research Meeting, Royal
Free Hospital, London, December 2, 1999.
- "Thromboelastography-Guided Transfusion Algorithm Reduces Transfusions
in Complex Cardiac Surgery" was published by Dr. Linda Shore-Lesserson
et al of the Depts. of Anesthesiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery Mt.
Sinai Medical Center, New York, in Anesth Analg
1999;88:312-9.
