Haemoscope Corporation was founded in 1976 to market and develop the Thrombelastograph analyzer originally under license from Hellige GmbH. Originally the results were reported on photographic film, then on chart paper. In those days, use of the technique was limited to hematologists. The first clinical application was in the early 1980's when TEG® analysis was used successfully to manage hemostasis in patients undergoing liver transplantation. It is now part of the standard protocol for liver transplantation worldwide, and has also become the standard in other critical clinical applications.

In 1991, Haemoscope assumed worldwide distribution and manufacturing of the device. Corporate management made a commitment to improve the quality of patient care in the area of hemostasis, as stated in our mission statement, and has dedicated its resources focused solely on developing the most advanced technology to support this goal. The impact of the TEG® system on improved clinical outcomes due to reduced use of blood products and pharmaceuticals, and the attendant reduction in complications, hospital stay, and mortality rate, has only stimulated added efforts in this pursuit.

On the hardware side of the technology, Haemoscope has streamlined the instrument itself, and improved the safety, ease of use, and ergonomics of the analyzer. The system uses a smaller footprint and can be configured as needed from one analyzer with two channels up to four analyzers with eight channels attached to one computer. This flexibility is useful in institutions that use it for point of care testing as well as centralized laboratory use.

One of the first improvements Haemoscope made was to computerize the TEG® analyzer to make it easier to use and interpret output. We have enhanced the software technology (link "software technology" to consistently over the years, based on our experiences and the input of our customers. We have added features to:

  • Support software-assisted diagnosis.
  • Provide several mechanisms for viewing TEG® results, both numerically and graphically.
  • Extend the accessibility of the data by moving into a network environment.
  • Remote viewing of real-time data anywhere on the network.
  • Expand quality assurance monitoring, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Dampen vibration effect while maintaining maximum measurement sensitivity.

We continue to advance the software technology and have moved many exciting steps forward in the newest version now in progress.

In past years we have expanded marketing efforts worldwide by adding distributors all over the globe. These partners provide sales, technical, and clinical support to prospective and current customers.
